Stimulus bill includes tax credit for motorcycle purchases

By Rick Barrett of the Journal Sentinel
Feb. 13, 2009 | A provision in the economic stimulus package could help motorcycle manufacturers, including Harley-Davidson Inc.
It's a tax credit for purchasers of new cars, light-duty trucks and motorcycles.
During Senate consideration of the stimulus package, an amendment was approved to provide purchasers of new cars and light-duty trucks a tax credit allowing a deduction of state sales or excise taxes for new vehicles purchased between Nov. 12, 2008, and Dec. 31, 2009.
The expansion of the tax credit to motorcycles could make it easier for consumers to purchase bikes at a time when reduced sales have forced layoffs at Harley-Davidson, one of the Milwaukee area's largest employers, according to legislators.
"Like other struggling businesses, sluggish sales have led to job losses in the motorcycle industry and the dealerships that depend on it. We should do all we can to help Harley-Davidson weather this poor economy so they can boost sales and retain jobs," Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) said in a statement issued Friday

Polly wanta a cracker because it looks like everyone else is getting one but the tax payers. This is not a stimulus bill but a wreckless spending bill through and through. They should cut it by 80% with no pork and cut taxes by 80% for the businesses and working man. This would put money in the hands of productive citizens and the businesses that keep this country going

Oh and this is motorcycle related , Any new vehicle that gets 35mpg or more should not be taxed at all

Won't help a single person in New Hampshire. No sales or income tax here, so I guess we're left out.

:agree:So far, most of the package is for Financial companies, various government agencies, and non productive-non working people. A federal income tax cut would put more money into the hands of WORKING folks, the same people who have been ripped by the many poor decisions made by our corrupt so-called leaders in Washington.

Hey, just give everyone one million dollars, wouldn't cost as much, end welfare ( don't qualify having that much) no freebies at all....and most would retire and open the job market....I'd buy 2 new motorcycles to help out, maybe a new truck too ;)

That's a place I've lived that I miss (in the summer). Lived in Hampton, 3 blocks from the beach. People were vocal, not robotic when it came to political rectal-cranial inversion.

... be careful what you ask for...
At the rate they're printing new money for all the bailouts,
it's almost the same as giving everyone a million dollars
... problem is, when EVERYONE is a millionaire,
then a loaf of bread is gonna cost you about 10 grand ...

Yah, it's a neat place from May - October. April and November can get a little dicey (depends on the year). Lots of good bike roads here and also in Vermont and Maine. Of course it :cus: in the winter, but I guess everyplace has it's pluses an minuses.

Comeon back man - we miss you

It won't help us in Texas either. Sales tax on big-ticket items is already deductible.

1/3 of the bill is for national health care building blocks. It is in the bill that your doctor will not be able to just order any tests or procedures without federal government approval. There will be a health czar overseeing all the changes. If you are a senior citizen some of your health care can and will be curtailed to rain in the costs to cover everyone.
Welfare will be restored to the level it was before the changes passed in the early 80's.
You want unemployment pay. Not problem, if you quit your job, are fired, are part time, you will get unemployment.
There is countless layers of NEW federal government that will be in place and about impossible to get it ever removed again.
Tax payers get $13 per week back from payroll taxes.
Now what was it about saving some sales tax?????
Any taxpayer will be a slave to the feds with this bill.

we are seeing the transfer from our capitalistic society going to socialism

while they have, as Maragaret Thatcherhas stated, "run out of other people's money to spend" they are now spending money that does not exist!

And I was thinking about this while I was looking for new crush washers for my motorcycle

+1 (Very high probability that this piece of pork is going to further deepen the recession, perhaps turning it into a major depression.).

I think what has been passed is criminal. For example giving 12 billion dollars to help GM with no stipulations. Why not instead a car credit. The details of this credit is you would give everyone a one time $20,000 credit toward the purchase of an American Car.(Honda Accords or Toyota Camary would also meet this requirement) this credit could be used to purchase a cheaper car or a down payment for a more expensive one. People could use it now, next week or 10 years from now. This would move inventory, place newer cars that created less polution and got better mileage. This is just one example. Let people help themselves.

Throwing money at businesses with no stipulations while unemployment nears 10%, who the heck can buy anything if they dont have a job?

And motorcycle related, Honda needs to get their ship together and have a new wing model, new VTX model drop the goofy DN01 $15K scooter. They need to bring the duo sports that they sell in Europe over here, drop the Fury chooper(they are 8 years too late) bring the Trail 70 and 90 back, offer silver wing scooter in 900cc,650 cc and 400cc. And drop the Rutkus scooter that is ugly to a blind man:roll:

The deal is that the bill makes the tax deductible on your Federal income tax, for everyone (if there is such a tax in your State). It's not huge, but it's something.

This is simply a lie, that's flown around the Net. The provision is simply an information system to make all your previous medical records available on computer to your present doctor. There is no "oversight" of your treatment involved. It's debunked in great detail here:

In the 30s people were hired to build roads and schools and dams. They were also hired to build trails and campsites in our national parks. And (a few) to paint murals or take historic photographs. Etc. All that created jobs, it all put money in circulation. Everyone would spend the money differently, everyone has their own ideas about what jobs to create, but to say this is not actually stimulus is wrong.

If what you are saying is true.... I guess I better start saving my paychecks and working more overtime to be able to pay my next years taxes.

edit. I meant for your whole post not just this one subject.

So I guess we're now the USSA ?
That's United Socialist States of America.

Kruschev said that "America would fall without a shot ever being fired". I guess he was right.

Hey Sliver take the time to read the bill. Then you will either be changing your tune or you will love being a socialist. I could state more but we are not on the Hot topic forum. Get the drift Silver?
