With all the switch related issues I read, any preventative maintainance suggested i.e. spraying with contact cleaner or a silicone lube? WOuld I need to open up the housings?

The only way to lube it properly would be to open them up. Spraying with the contact cleaner works sometimes, depending on how corroded the contacts are.

switch maintenance

I recently had a reverse switch acting up and used contact cleaner & protection that i purchased at Wal-Mart with great results. Just spray the cleaner in the switches and activate them several times. I placed a towel over the tupperware to keep it from dripping on my plastic ware. Hope this helps you.

Took mine in yesterday for 2 switches )Cruise Control stuck and Starter was finicky) and a small oil leak around a valve cover bolt. All extended warranty work. They said they pulled coves apart and sprayed contact cleaner in there.

Paid $10 for a state inspection as well since they're good for 60 days.
