Something must be wrong with either your bike or your speedo. 112mph is the limit on mine, regardless of what mode I'm in, even downhill in full tuck with windshield all the way down. The throttle by wire system limits the throttle plates as you approach the speed, so it just acts like it is on cruise control no matter how far you twist the throttle.

The only way for me to currently make my bike exceed 112mph would be to drop it out of an airplane.
After reading all the posts about this speed limiter, I have one question. Why would Honda put such a limit on the bike knowing it has the capability to go faster. I mean, guys with Kawasaki crotch rockets, does that type of bike have a speed limiter as well? I don't really care to go that fast anyway so I don't care about the limiter and have no interest in tying to make any changes to do so. I do have a DCT 2018 and have gone for sure 110 and then let go. I might check it to see if will go any faster and report back.

i hate to sound stupid, but does the fuse in the fuse box labeled "speed limiter" have anything to do with the speed limiter? my owners manual mentions it but says it's only applicable in Canada. i am pretty sure i saw that fuse in mine, i haven't removed it, and i haven't tried to go over 100 mph yet

The fuse doesn't have anything to do with the 112 mph top speed limit on the bike.

Was talking about the falling speed out of an airplane. Limited to 120 mph.
122 mph (for a human body)

And I would bet the wing at redline in top gear would go about 145... seems a number the Honda engineers have used for years

919 redline top gear 145 calculated ( I started feeling my mortality about 135)

ST1300 redline top gear 145 calculated ( I started feeling my mortality about 130)
GL1800 redline top gear 145 calculated ( I started feeling my mortality about 125)

The top speed of the '18-'19 Wing is largely hypothetical to 99.9-percent of Wing riders. It's really a matter of bragging rights than anything else.

If you're the owner of an '18-'19 Wing AND you've hit the maximum speed governor AND you feel you needed more speed than the governor allowed, please chime in. And if you're disappointed in the Wing's top speed on the track, sorry, you bought the wrong bike for track work.

My Canadian-spec 2018 Audi A4 Quattro 2.0 TSFI is speed governed to 124 mph (I believe), just like the U.S. variant. The same model in Germany is governed to 155 mph. Would I have preferred the 155 mph Euro-spec verson? Sure.

I don't know the reason why Honda speed governed the '18-'19 Wing, but I can imagine a Honda lawyer contemplating the potential lawsuit resulting from a 200 lb rider with a 200 lb passenger, hauling a trailer and cruising at 100 mph somewhere in Arizona on a 100 degree Fahrenheit day.

To me, the discussion about why the new 'Wing's top speed is arbitrarily governed to (whatever speed) is like reading on the Honda CBR1000RR owners' forum guys crying about why that sportbike doesn't have cruise control, 280 mile fuel range, and an all-day-comfortable saddle.

Last week I was pulling away from a souped-up HD. At least up to 112. He admitted, later, that he had no idea that a Wing could accelerate like that.

I agree

I agree. In the spirit of true, free enterprise, vote with your wallet, right?

So, screw Big Brother. We have choices for unrestricted, big, comfy touring and touring capable bikes: last Gen Wings, or if you want something that sets your hair on fire, the Kawasaki Concours 1400 or Yamaha FJR1300.

Seriously, how many times have you run your Wing to top speed? (That's a rhetorical question, and not expecting an answer to it.).

Believe me, I 'get' what you're saying. All I'm saying is that for all intents and purposes, it's irrelevant to 99.9-percent of Gold Wing owners whether the bike is speed-governed to an arbitrary, say 118 mph (I don't know what the actual number is), rather than speed limited (NATURALLY due to gearing and aerodynamics) to say, 125 mph. The vast majority of Wing owners, I'm guessing, find the speed-governed issue to be only of mild interest.

Anyway, interesting discussion. If we were in a bar, I'd buy you a beer so we could continue this exchange.

raising the top end would keep the bike from falling flat on its face when youre passing at high speeds. its happened to me a few times. everyone around me runs at least 75-80 on the freeway. 10 mph hour is only a few seconds away. if youre trying to pass a couple of trucks it doesnt take long for the effects of the limiter to rear its ugly self.

I downloaded Fred's ECM shortcut removal video so I would have it at Don Guhl's when I arrived to get my flash done. From watching it, I thought I could do it in about thirty minutes. Don let me pull my bike into his shop. I checked my watch and began. 29 minutes later I handed the ECM to Don. I haven't put a lot of miles on the bike yet, but I can tell that I going to like it a lot more. Thanks Fred for putting together a great video series! Saves me from having to carry my big service manual with me everywhere. :) :)

If you don't mind and have time please post up a new thread with a review of your feelings, and what you had changed, after you get some miles on it.
