For those of you that don't like the desert stay home, to many people have moved here anyway vegas was much nicer in the 70s , when their weren't so many people . If I were going to retire I would look into Overton , Logandale, Moapa valley area very nice small town cooler ,check it out .
As kwthom said the area in northern Nevada isn't to bad, we are actually waiting to close on a property east of Reno, near Fernley. We live in Washington state, west side, and pay no income tax but the state gets it's money. We were looking for decent weather, we like Las Vegas, but the high temps they get there can be rough. Weather in northern Nevada more temperate, still plenty of casino's and things to do. We looking to retire here eventually, it will be a get-away home for next 10 years or so. Reason we looking to retire here is, will have room to spread out on 5 acres without breaking the bank, and we really like the area, have kids living in eastern Washington and Arizona, will be nearly split between them. Not so worried about the no income tax, I am sure Nevada will get there cut. The property tax on he place we are buying will be less than 1/3 of what we are paying now for a similar sized home on 1/4 acre. Granted we will not have a lawn it is desert type sand and small shrubs some trees, but hey I have mowed lawns since 1970, and wont miss it much.
I'm moving to overton in September. Found a nice little mobile home park to retire in, seniors only. They do have some nice subdivisions with newer homes. I got hurt at work a couple years ago so I didn't want to have house payments. Gonna be doing a lot more riding in the future.
