I've been trying out the DMD2 T665, Garmin Zumo XT2, and Scenic App in ACP mode.

Scroll down to post #4 for pictures

Transferring planned route GPX files between all three nav systems/devices is pretty straight forward and can be done very easily on the primary phone using file drop between Scenic, Google Drive (DMD2), and Tread (XT2).

Imported GPX files Processing
XT2 generates three different route type options and one track option. This is nuts. (n)
T665 provides a route option and a track option. (y)

Transferring recorded ride GPX files from the T665 and XT2 to apps on the Phone such as Relive and Scenic - easier with DMD2 than with XT2.

DMD2 T665 Thoughts
Many adventure tour and off road riders are ditching Garmin and moving to DMD2, the T865 in particular.
Three options: hardened android 8" tablet or hardened 6" android phone or app for android.
Lots more capability and configurability than Garmin XT2.
Big Benefits:
  • It can be a back up phone
  • Can run other apps for weather and traffic and more that the XT2 can't. For 2018+s this enables nav and alternate info to be displayed simultaneously!
Plus handlebar remote controls, keeping hands on the bars.
Has a wireless OBD capability that could theoretically provide more data about the bike (digital speedo too) but that has not been explored with Gold Wings.
Very secure mount, more so than the XT2
Lifetime maps and support.
Very very responsive developer.

But there are some drawbacks.
Critical issue: Navigation info, Font, ect are much to small on the T665. Can't read the info at a glance. Display is crowded and cramped. May not be an issue on the larger 865. XT2 gets this right.
The configurability comes was a significant learning curve, especially if you are an Apple iphone user vice an android user.
Learning support info and videos are descent but could be significantly improved -especially for basic/core/foundational activities such as importing a GPX, selecting a route/track, and starting turn by turn navigation.
The T665 mount is more awkward and bulky compared to the XT2 which limits and restricts some mounting locations. No issue if going for a handlebar mount.
T665 locking mechanism is smaller and harder to operate than aftermarket lock for the XT2...and the DMD2 lock appears to be lower quality as well. Not familiar with the T865 lock
DMD2 is really competing against the Garmin Tread 2 SxS or Overland nav units vice the XT2. The Tread 2 nav units are built for adventure tour riders, side by side (SxS) and similar offroad vehicles. While fully functional for road riders doing everything the XT2 can and more, road riders are less of a focus of the developer.

And no, my set up has nothing on @Auburn

The T665 had everything I was looking for and was far more capable than the Garmin Zumo XT2...but ended up having one fatal flaw...

...the display info - especially for turns and other navigation info - is just too small to be quickly read at a glance.

Garmin got the info display scaled right for the size of the screen where as the T665 is just too crowded, cramped, and small.

The display setup likely works really well with the T865 (too big for my set up) but not for the T665.
