Am considering Bridgestone tires for my 02 Wing and would like to know the differences in the 704 & 709 as to the 850 & 851 except that the 800 series is actually for the VTX 1800--Won't it work and which tire gets the best performance and mileage ratings??

The Stone 704 front tire, I believe was OEM equipment on the 2001 and was replace later with the 709 because of problems. I can't comment on the 850's. I prefer Bridgestones for my 03 and have never had a problem with them.

850/851s are both 70 series, both Z rated (150MPH) for speed, and built for the VTX1800. Yes, the will fit on the wheels of the GL1800, but are not built for it. I have a pair on my GL1800, and like them because of the handling, but I know they will not last as long.

The ones built for the wing was the 700 numbered ones, and they are 60 series rear, 70 series front, and have 6 ply tread 4 ply sidewall. They will last longer than the others, and are stiffer - meaning they are a little harder to mount than the VTX built tires.
