Is it possible...

If the turn signal switch fails, could it cause the 4-way flashers to stop
functioning normally, cause the cruise control to fail, cause the running
lights and brake lights to fail etc.?? All lights on the front half of the
bike operate normally, problem only on the rear.

Also, lights flash faster w/key in accessory, slower in run position. In
addition, when started, bike takes about 10 seconds to come up to a
normal state of charge unless revved, then it is instant.

All fuses and relays check fine. Wing was running in an absolute normal
fashion, gassed up, and the problem appeared.

Turn signal switch does seem to be rough compared to what I feel is
smooth operation.

Any hints, past experiences, etc????

YES, especially if the switch doesn't feel right. I haven't had mine apart but others on the board have and there's alot of parts in there. I would check the left handle bar cover for pinched wires also. :D

I am hoping that you are right. Happened @ 9:30pm in Gorman, Ca after
navigating the grapevine. Had enough light to make it to Buttonwillow and
a night in a motel.

Did not notice the "roughness" in the switch until arriving home today and
checking.

Usually the alternator does not come on for the first 8-10 seconds...this is normal.
Thanx Lewis... Good to know!

Most likely looking for the problem, I have now noticed every little thing
that one might think is out of the ordinary :D

As a side note, double check fuse #19. If it blows, your alternator will completely quit charging as well as the cruise dying.

After looking through the shop manual, I am simply amazed at the sheer
number of components that are tied in together. I find it amazing that just
a simple switch can cause such a huge problem.

Engineers... Gotta love 'em

I don't believe the turn signal switch is the problem unless two separate problems occurred at the same time, highly unlikely.
The cruise control is powered from different relays and fuses than the turn signals and taillights.
The only thing common between all these is the ground connections. Make sure they are all clean and tight.
The other possibility is a plug in the wiring harness that is not making a good connection.

Good luck. Let us know what you found when you get it fixed.

Maybe I can shed a bit more light on the problem...

I have the Muth Mirrors, have had for 2 years. When the left turn is on
the 5 lights in the left mirror light, and the "TOP" two on the right mirror
light. When the right turn is on, the 5 lights on the right mirror light, and
the "BOTTOM" 2 on the left mirror light.

All lights, brake, spoiler, turn on the rear of the bike flash. All lights on the
front (facing front) work properly. Both turn indicators are always lit no
matter what the position of the turn signal switch.

The running lights on the trunk (Kuryakyn), have ceased working. The
turn signal switch is very rough, and does not feel normal. This may be
a ground since I had just travelled 250mi on the L.A. freeway system :D

The bike is under warranty, but the local dealer is not (IMHO) able to fix a
leaky faucet, so I might have to take the bike south. I would just like to
have a handle on the cause prior to the dealer working on it.

Sorry to hear about the problem... if it turns out you need to take the bike south for repair, JBJ Cycle in Santa Ana would be a good bet. They install Traxxion suspension there under Max's tutilage, and I hear they are excellent with Wing repairs... just a thought. Hope you get it all sorted out!

This is from about a year ago. Hope it helps.

Does the cruise work? I had a problem such as you are describing but the cruise would not work either. It turned out to be in a connector under the seat at the rear of the seat. It is a large connector joining about ten wires. If memory serves me right it is the pin for a green wire that is bad. I simply jumpered around the connector once I found which connection was the culprit because I didn't want to leave it at the dealer at this time. You can wiggle the connector and plug and unplug it a few times or take a short piece of wire and jump from one side to the other on each wire to see if this is your problem. Hope this helps.
