Dawg,
I'm glad you and a lot of Wingers are happy with their Wings just the way they are.

Here's my attempt at an analogy: A man gets married at 18 to his childhood sweatheart. For 20 years their marriage, after the lights go out  was satisfying.

Then his wife leaves him and he begins a relationship with a 25 year old hard body that has no inhibitions, whatsoever.

I think it would be safe to say that he would shutter at the thought of spending a night with a clone of his first wife.

I shutter at the thought of going back to a stock suspension. :D

Next time you ask for comments you might want to stipulate that you only want comments that agree with you. :( You seem to get real bitchy when we don't!

I didn't quit working when I was 36 so I could sit on my behind. I've done 25-30,000 miles a year most years since then. I've been riding the hills of NE TN, NC, and Ga probably longer than you've been riding. Matter of fact one of my houses in is NE Tn. I visit the area many times a year. I do many 350-450 mile days in the mountains. I doubt you would embarass me on a ride in the mountains. Even with my nasty ole OEM suspension. LMAO....

The suspension you have might be the greatest things since sliced bread. Like I stated, most people that own a Wing wouldn't know the difference between a full blown conversion or if someone just changed oil & OEM springs.

I guess another way to look at is you're riding a 900 pound pig. Why put a dress on a pig because it's still just a pig with a dress on. If you want performance in the hills why not buy a bike that will do what you want?

You're right; in a nice mellow blue-haired Florida community, it's a waste of money.
Hey Arn Butt Bill.... Just a little FYI. Most of my miles are done out of state except in the winter. I'm not tied to a J-O-B. Don't cut coupons either! I do see my Mother who is 800 miles away on a regular basis. It makes for a nice days ride. :) How about you? Do you still stay away from your Mother because she smokes?

Question......

How many miles was on these bikes before you did anything about the front forks?

How many changed springs before the Trx?

How many changed oil or bushings?

Has anyone got 30,000 miles or more on the 1800 Trx rework?

TIA....

Red, you ride a lot, have a long history of riding, and ride some good roads. Have you ever rode a wing with Traxxion? If not you should do so........it may be a pig with a dress on, but you'd appreciate it a lot more.
You gotta try it. The poor old stock front end will not even hold up the bike......that cannot be good.

Red, Red, Red, I sure wish I lived closer to you. I believe you and my Father are clones. We could have alot in common.

To answer a couple of your questions. I think they were pointed towards all of us.
1. I had about 15 k miles on my bike before I touched the front fork fluid. That was 5 months after I got it. I was amazed at how dirty the left side was. The bushing was still in good shape. At 40K miles I changed the fluid again. However this time I changed the front springs with Traxxion. I also changed the bushings, seals, and such.
2. I have about 20K on my Traxxion front end. Hopwever I only have the springs. I do not feel they have worn one bit in my opinion. In fact, next month when I have the bike apart I am getting the rest of the Traxxion done. I am going to get full credit on the spring job I have already done. Cant beat that.

I dont even have the full blown setup and its like night and day. I know for a FACT that after seeing and knowing Bulldog, it would benefit him like he wouldnt believe. He doesnt just lolly gag around on his Wing. He will get the chance to ride one at CAtsCAde next year.

Red, I really wish you and I lived closer. I would enjoy for you to ride my bike and feel the difference. Thats all....

So if you ride to Tn alot, why are you not letting me know so I can ride the mountains with you sometime. I would enjoy that.

Yes; she lives close to you and drives slow.
But we did ride down to Florida City for breakfast.
Red, come ride the demo bike. If you're up here that much, just do it. Take it out for an hour or two and then get back into bed with your pig.
F-14 or Cesna; your choice.

What is the TOTAL cost of a front and rear upgrade. I looked at Traxxions web site, it looked like about $800 for labor and $1800 for parts. Does that sound right?

If you only knew what a full-blown asthma attack feels like, you'd throw out those nasty things and never pick them up again.

Mom and Dad permanantly damaged my lungs and almost killed me. Dad died of cancer; Mom has most of her removable parts taken out, full of cancer. And she still smokes.
Lots of cancer and emphysema in the family; but only a couple of smokers left. The rest died hideously.

Smoke, smoke, smoke that cigarette
Puff, puff, puff until you smoke yourself to death.

The difference between the old and the new........

The Traxxion Suspension set up is like the difference between a Model - T Ford ...............and the Space Shuttle on Steroids!

There is NO comparison............why wear a Timex, when you can wear a Rolex and have the best.....the riding experience is what we are all seeking here when we bought our Goldwings.....

Why not improve the breed and make it everything it can be....it adds value, performance, comfort, and confidence in your equipment that you can ride safely and have a wonderful experience every time you mount up.

Non progressive mentality limits a man's ability to move forward in life.....one day a bunch of engineers got together and said "Let's build a space ship and go to the moon" the old farts said "No, it can't be done"........then the younger guys went out and built it......and flew it to the moon....I think that was 1969!

Then they went from a rocket to a space shuttle! Kind of lock stock Goldwing suspension......and moving up to Traxxion Suspension.....the old...and the new.....man should always be looking for ways to improve his environment, and his ability to progress.....

I think members of this board have well spoken their ideas and opinions...and the majority WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To the few who have this mentality......"A man has to know his limitations"........Clint Eastwood 1980.

So.......keep your stock springs and suspension, and drive it to the Dairy Queen just to keep your battery charged...shouldn't have to take too many curves......you may get passed by a Traxxion modified Goldwing.....eat your heart out!! :D

So Bass, as I see it, either we agree with you and we are right, or else we are all a bunch of DQ, lolly gagging Pukes if we are neutral or disagree.

Seems fair to me!

This is the only issue I see with spending the money.. I'm sure it's worth every penny to those who will really notice the difference but according to Max, all forks should be inspected and rebuilt every 20k or so.. While it's not that expensive if you really put it to use and notice it, there's maint. required to keep it performing 100%... This also speaks to ALL forks, not just Traxions or stockers...

I'll be doing a full job on my stocker (bushings, seals and fork springs) this winter at 70k... When I did the left seal in the begining of the season I compared the bushings to a new set and was surprised how much wear was there but didn't have the time to do both fork legs so it's become a winter project..

The Wing is a 900# bike that can certainly be improved, but as Red said, it's a pig in a dress.. If you really want a tool for sporting, you get a sporting bike, there is NO comparison!! You can drive screws with a hammer, but it's not very effective or safe... (Some take great pride in beating on a screw with a hammer, I solute that spirit, but I'll pick up the electric screwdriver instead if you don't mind)

After spending $2k on a mod like this would anybody say it wasn't the best thing in the world???? I'd love to try it, but can't see spending $2k when my expectations would be too high for what a 900# bike can deliver.

Up a little early Dawg??? Gotta get a jar of that hot bologna for omlettes

Hey Steve, how did the springs and rebuild improve the ride??? Mine's got to get rebuilt anyway, but I'm definatly doing the heavier springs from Max.. Which ones did you put in and what wieght oil you using with the stock forks?

Pukes? Man that's harsh.

We gotta get you on one of these bikes, Luther. And it could be a DQ run too. There's a good DQ in Hiawassi; we'll take you there via Wolfpen Gap Road and some of the zippy sections on 129. You ride your bike there and Paul's on the way back.
It's like a baptism of sorts; an awakening. We'll welcome you with open arms.

I did a full Traxxion upgrade, new tires, Kury fork brace and replaced all brake pads, all at the same time.
I ended up with awesome results. The downside, because I did it all at once, I had no point of reference to go to for how much benefit the Kury fork brace provided. All I know is Max reccomended it and I did it.
If a little is good, a little more is better and a lot is best.
You just got to have it all.

As much as I'd love to upgrade my Wing to get the maximum benefits, that's a lot of $$$. Heck, I was able to get the Wing after all these years, so throwing even more money into it isn't going to happen for a little while.

If I lived in the mountains or did a lot of riding in the mountains, I could probably justify having it done, but heck, I'm from Florida and due to work and family commitments, I don't get to take a lot of trips to run the twisties.

I've had my bike since the end of June and I've just gone over 2000 miles, that should tell ya I don't get to ride as much as I'd like. The trip to Two Egg this Saturday will be the longest ride I've taken on it.

So for me, I can't see doing the upgrade at this point. Sad to say, like Red said, I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference anyway. :)

I'm happy for those of you have it. Just not in the books for me anytime soon.

The wing is the best tourer ever made, no exceptions and I have gotten really fond of mine. However, I am not one of those "love it or leave it" sort of people. There is always room for improvement or may be it is more personalization then improvement.

Based on riding the wing for 30,000 miles now, I think for the way I ride the suspension can be improved, although it would not be the first thing on my list. Is the cost worth the change, at first I would have said no, but I am thinking now may be it would be based on the following.

The wing is rated at a little over 400#'s for cargo. I am 6'4" and 230, my wife is 5'11" and when we are both on the wing, we aren't over the GVRW, but it is very close and doesn't leave much for cargo. I have not read that the Traxxion system adds to the GVRW but heavier springs has got to help since GVRW is generally set by the fork and spring rating.

I ride (sometimes) with jjsc6 and his clan and man o' man do I get the shakes, shimmies and wallows when bent into a turn trying to keep up. Sometimes clanging parts on the road. I have read that the upgrade helps add stability and reduces wallow. I also heard it can increase the height of the bike. (although the best fix for this problem may be the new Connie)

I also have the dreaded 40 mph wobble, have had it since I got the bike even with 4 or 5 changes in tire combinations and different tire pressures. I don't ride around with my hands off the handlebars (much), nevertheless the fact that it wobbles sometimes nags at the back of my brain when traveling through town.

My tires also wear irregularly, scalloping both front and back, to the point that it reduces the life of the tire. I feel that it is related somehow to the wobble but I don't know for sure why. I am not certain the Traxxion system would help with this, but it sure can't hurt.

"pig in a dress" yes, but it is MY pig :)
