How do you ship take offs, i.e. rear wheel w/tire and saddlebags?

Do they need to be boxed or will UPS or FedEx take them without box or crate?

I have just taped the address to the tire, and wheel, and put a tag on the spoke with wire, or tie wrap. UPS will take anything with an address on it I think....:shock:

I shipped a rear wheel/tire a couple of weeks ago by cutting 2 round pieces of cardboard a little bigger than the diameter of the wheel and taping around the whole tire to the front and back sides. You can use duct tape then address label on one side. This will protect the wheel somewhat from rough handling. UPS accepted with no problem.

When I shipped a wheel, UPS, it had to be shrink wrapped. A little story also: Sold saddle bags & rear fender for $75.00, including shipping. Shipping was $61.00. Net gain of $14.00. About an hour of packaging time. Thank goodness I got my pack cartons from work at no cost. Another good thing, it was an Armstrong I sold em to. (No relation)
