We are planning a trip to lower Alabama and will be crossing Mississippi on Hwy 84 headed west to east. Are there any points of interest along the way that we should be aware of? Anything a short distance off Hwy 84 worth looking at?

How about along the coast area on the trip back east to west?

When you arrive in MS on 84, you will be in the river bluff town of Natchez. We have never done it, but there are several Horse and Buggy Carriage rides that might be interesting. They ride you thru and tour the old down town area and antebellum homes. We made our own little tour on the bike before heading north on the Natchez Trace Parkway.

Going East to West on the Coast, the Hwy 90 Beach drive thru Biloxi/Gulfport area is a good ride. Lots of sandy beaches and casinos. Just be cautious, as it is pretty well traveled by the locals during rush hour. You can actually take this all the way into LA. or turn north to pick up I-10.

There are numerous good eateries, up and down the Alabama & Miss. coast, depending on where you are headed.

Well, we will be headed that way on June 12th. Plan on stopping in Natchez and check it out. Have been up the Natchez trace trail before both ways.... Guess we will see what happens along 84 on the way over and ride the coast on the way back.

Good luck on planning your trip. Not sure how long that you intend to be in the MS area, but the below webpages may lend some info on things happening around our area. The Hwy 84 is a good road to ride. I believe that there may still be some areas of construction, as some parts of that road is being upgraded. But, overall it is a very good road. Not sure where you are going to jump off to go to Lower Alabama, but most of the roads headed south are good to ride on (except Hwy 49 above H'Burg which is not real bad, just lots of fast traffic and bumps). Give a holler when in the SE MS/SW AL area, we always enjoy a good ride!

I'm sure you are home from this trip but the next time through MS on 84 you might want to try the RED BLUFF ROAD. It is the MS version of Deal's Gap and Red Bluff is the MS version of the grand Canyon. You can hit red bluff road or I think hwy 587 in monticello MS. That's about half way between Brookhaven and Collins on 84. You will find red bluff road across form the courthouse and you you head south. The road actually ends in Foxworth which is on ms HWY 98. You could then continue on 98 to Mobile and hit I-10 or a short cut just before you leave ms on I believe MS 63 south to Moss Point and I-10.:doorag:
