Do your hazards work? If so, it's not the flasher, but probably the cancel unit, it's wiper arm on the bottom of the triple tree, or it's plug that goes down the center of the steering head. If your hazards don't work either, then you will have to pull out the gauge cluster, on an 01 the flasher is built into the rear of it.
Flasher is behind meter panel.
If 4 ways still work, flasher is still good.
I had that problem a couple of years ago. Tuned out it was a connector behind meter panel that had not been fully locked from the factory
