Sitting at a red light in Yuma AZ waiting to make a U turn I notice a sign that states that U turns yield to Right Turn on Red. That just doesn't seem right to me. If you have a red light you can proceed into the intersection and traffic with the green light must yield to you?
I have always been extra cautious about making U turns for the very reason that people turning right on red aren't always watching for people making a U turn, but I never thought I had to yield the right of way to them.
Does this seem right to you?

I think you answered your own question.
People making a right on red are usually looking left
and will not see the U-turn driver.

What makes it right is that they are telling
you to "watch out" for the guy who is probably
not watching out for you.
Maybe "smart advice" would be a better choice
of words than "makes it right" ...

my two cents,
Dennis

Right turn on red

I wish U-turns at intersections would be outlawed!! It only takes a little effort to drive down a couple streets and turn around. In Utah it is illegal to to make a right turn on red, when the left turn arrow is on. U-turn has the right of way. Be safe.
