What Sportbike Would You Choose?

If you were buying a sporty bike for solo riding, weekend jaunts, maybe the occasional burger run or track day, what would you choose?

As a Wing rider, I guess you would want something comfortable, torquey and fast with good handling that isn't in any way TWITCHY. But that leaves a lot of choices.

  • 600 or open class?
  • Triumph triple or thumpin' supermoto?
  • GSXR600 or a GSX650F?
  • Would you go with the CBR1000RR or VFR1200F?

Personally, I feel very locked in on the Concours and the ST, but for something even lighter, I would probably really enjoy the sporty-standard Suzuki GSX650F.

What's your mistress: your dream sport bike?

Just changed

I had a concours, very nice quick bike with lots of fun for runs around town but after 3 or 4 hundred miles i was pretty much done for the day, but now since the youngings are getting older we decided on a long trip bike, best choice thas far, love the goldie, but if i was to just have a bike for around town or to do some quicks twisties, i would probably go with the ST1300 or a 2012 concours.
Without a doubt a 2005-2006 Honda RC51.

With me at 6'5" tall, The RC51 is the only Sport Bike that I felt comfortable on...

Ducati Multistrada 1200 S Touring
My son has a Concours C-14 and we did an 1775 mile ride last August. He was comfortable the whole trip.

Weekend jaunts would lead me to a very different decision than a track bike.

Track only - SV650. Light, inexpensive, lots of aftermarket track support.

As soon as I can figure out how to hide it in the garage this is on my list.

AS I entered my 50's, I decided I wanted something a little more comfortable than a full on crotch rocket. I picked up a new, in the crate, 2008 Aprilia Tuono. It's not as fast and as powerful as the full on liter bikes, but is handles just as well. The only areas where it lacks is when my buddies go wide open, but then we are talking speeds 120+, I save that for the race track. I have a Ventura Luggage system that allows me to carry enough clothes for a weekend getaway.

So now my crotch rocket is clothed in track bodywork and only used on the track.

Although the wife wasn't too happy in where I parked it.

I've owned a ZX6, ZX7, ZX9, and RC51. I've ridden a couple different R1's, ST1300, FJR1300, Ducati 1098 and GSXR750.

The best corner chewer was my 93 ZX7. The most nimble was the 06 GSXR750. The worst all around in handling and power delivery were the Duc and the RC. The one that felt the most on the ragged edge/out of control was the R1. Out of all of them - the 98 ZX9 was the best overall.

I don't blame her. Are you some kind of caveman or something. Everyone know that you never leave you guitar on the furniture.

Must agree with the 1099
Love my Concours.
CBR600RR like riding on rails at any speed.

Would be a tough call. A lot of the exotics draw the eye, but I think if I could only have one I'd have to hunt down a Suzuki B-King.

Second to that a Suzuki GSX1250FA

I don't know about any particular dream bike but I'm fond of the Triumph Street triple in the R version.
I also really like the new kawasaki 1000 ninja and oddly, I kind of like the newest version of the 650 Ninja.
Basically i want a little more upright kind of sporty bike.
But then again I guess my current sporty bike, heavy, not that fast but cool for me is my HD XR1200.
