There are many national chain motels along I-10 Ocean Springs (Exit 50) and Gulfport (Exit 34) have the heavest concentrations. I prefer the Exit 50 selection and many of them are new. As for what to see, it really depends on how much time you have. The Seafood Industry and the Orr-O'Keefe (A Frank Gehry creation) museums, Jefferson Davis last home and Museum (Beauvoir) on the Beach, the Harbor Tour in Biloxi are all fun. For Breakfast (if you spend the night in Ocean Springs be sure to eat at McElroy's, for a shrimp or oyster poboy for lunch you would be hard pressed to beat Fayard's BP Market. In the evening there are scads of places for outstanding seafood and the Casino buffets are generally good values. If you have time your grandson might enjoy a boat ride to Ship Island and Ft. Massachussetts. The ride is almost an hour each way so it will take 3+ hours including a short visit to the Civil War fort and beach where the surf is usually nice. It leaves from Gulfport Harbor. I just hit the high points. The Mississippi Gulf Coast is IMO one of America's best kept vacation secrets, for now at least.
