I have a Magellan Roadmate GPS that works great BUT it is a hard-drive based unit and on rough roads tends to lock up and it is not waterproof. Does anyone know which unit would be best for mounting on the bike? I need one that is based on flash memory and has no moving parts, has all maps built in, and is totally waterproof! Suggestions please!!

The Zumo 550 is built specificallyfor motorcylcles so they say. Google it, and there is a lot of talk about it around here. Kinda pricey, but nice!

Garmin 2730. Flash based, all maps, XM Radio, XM Weather, XM Nav Traffic, MP3 player, waterproof. $809.92 including FedEx shipping from GPSDiscount.com (I got mine from there).

For the mount, there are a lot of different options, I the one I got (and I think is the best) is from Jon at GoldwingGadgets.com

Wiring to the bike was plug-n-play with Kennedy parts including the IsoSet. These are available from GoldwingGadgets.com or CycleGadgets.com Jon may be able to do a package deal for the mount and wiring.

I'll throw in a vote for the Lowrance iWay 500c.

When they release it -- ostensibly in October -- the Garmin Zumo 550 seems to be about as cutting edge a GPS as you can get in a very attractive motorcycle-friendly package. That's why I (am upgrading from my 3-year old SPIII and) have already pre-ordered one myself.

A lot depends on how PC and GPS savy you are...also, do you want all the bells or just a good GPS????

I don't care about XM and weather, so the 2720 fits me great...but asking about which GPS is right there with which oil to use.....

Everyone like something a little different...I'd say go with a Garmin unit that's waterproof and allows downloading from the PC and your about there......customer service from Garmin is about as good as you can get.

Which GPS for your bike

Taking price, function, ease of use and screen size into consideration, I would recommend the iWay 500c.

If price is no issue and screen size is not important (yeh right) I would go for the Zumo 550 when it comes out.
