Why didn't Honda say pour in 4QT (A full gallon) instead of 3.9 qts in the engine oil capacity There must be a reason,(??)
I read many of you just pour in a full gallon, and ignore the 3.9 amount listed in the owner's service manual....
Doesn't that .1 actually over full the motor? (I know .1 doesn't sound like much oil (BUT) there has to be reason why(??)

Dump in the gallon/four qts and relax!!
Honda no doubt designed/built the engine and sump and then determined how much it would take to fill it by the liter and thus gave us a 3.9 qt fill amount.
My Wing goes up and down hills and leans around corners (condolences to those on trikes) which varies the oil level considerably so I assume the oil level isn't of paramount critical importance. If in doubt, check out what the oil level does in a bike with a sight glass oil level crankcase.

Why ask why?

But seriously, Honda was looking out for the “frequent flyers” of of the oil change hobby.

Honda marketing mavens decreed the oil refill amount should be “only” 3.9 quarts so the money you saved from that 0.1 quarts could go into your penny jar and saved up for your next Wing purchase.

Honda says 3.9 quarts because that’s the correct amount. A very good mechanic once told me your Goldwing is probably the only one that comes in here not waaay over full of oil from people changing their own oil.

Because quantity matters. If you add too much oil (even just a cup) it has the potential to make the oil froth (especially at higher RPMS) which can cause major engine damage. They specify 3.9 qts and not 4 because 3.9 is the correct amount.

Thank you Fred, 3.9 Quarts (it will be always) ...I've been do'ing it correctly for years, on "both" my wings....:)

I found the oil level makes a big difference in shifting quality. I run my oil level at the lower mark on dipstick. High oil level got me nothing but rough shifts and ghost gears. Once I started doing the lower mark level, its not happened once.
