Wiring Rule of thumb for amperage of the following gauges of wire is as follows...
14G - 15A
12G - 20A
10G - 30A
8G - 50A

But what are the rule of thumb values for...
16G
18G
20G
22G
24G?

I looked at the chart the link goes to, and it sure looks high on the smaller wire size :shock:
Yes, it does look like too much amperage for that small of wire. But I think they were not considering long runs with that wire. Wire can take higher amperage rates in short runs. Most wire/amperage charts are for AC current is based on 125 ft run.

Ampacity of wires

The insulation material has everything to do with the amperage a certain wire size can carry . And also the length of the wire. Most automotive grades of wire are on the lower side of ampacity ratings due to the rubber coating on the wire. Jim
