I think what he meant was a close-fitting heated jacket is more effective than a loose fitting one. I don't think he was referring to the outer jacket. We want the heat elements close to our body in a jacket that conforms closely to our bodies. When I bought my first Gerbing's jacket 15 years ago from Shango Rider at a motorcycle rally he fitted me with one I thought was too small for me and if I had bought one online and not in person I would probably have one at least one size bigger than most effective.Thats not my experience. I have the same jacket in both large and X large. I am warmer wearing the X large jacket over my heated gear than I am wearing the large...with the X large jacket, its not as close to my skin and that extra air space that is heated, better insulates from the cold air. When I wear the smaller jacket over my heated gear I can feel the cold air on my arms much more than with the larger jacket. I keep my X large jacket for the cold rides.
