I was out riding south of Houston this morning on a back road, and came upon an alligator in the road. Yes, a live alligator!!! It scurried off the road when I was within about 30 feet of him. He was in the opposite lane, and there was tall grass just off the road.

In my 20 years of riding, this is a first!

Hm. Last alligator I saw on the road (Alligator Alley/I-75) was about 8-9 feet long. No way am I gonna try to tie it's mouth shut with tape. I just don't see him holding still for that, and they can outrun me. I just wave at 'em and move on down the road.

Ride long and safe..and pay attention.

Yep....we see em all the time...big ones too, but they usually scurry out of the way. You hardly ever see any "road kill" if you go south of here....gators pull it off the road and eat it.
BTW, they are probably one of the LAST things you'd ever want to hit on a bike....talk about a mess.

You guys from Flordia always have all the fun
Well, one day while riding near Banff (pronounced Ban Fuh Fuh  ) I came across a Bear on the road. One of them scared me a lot more than any of the gators I see around here ...
