Friends and I spend 5 nights in Zion National Park at the lodge at the end of January. Zion is always a great place to visit (even better on the motorcycle other than in the winter, but that would have even worked this trip), but it is most awesome in the winter when there are very few people there -- especially during the week. We got in some good hiking and a lot of good hanging with friends. Really liked being in one of the cabins with the gas fireplace -- made for some nice sleeping with the flickeriing flame.

If you are interested in seeing the photos you can do so by clicking the link below. You can then scan through them page by page or click the link to see a slideshow. A lot of photos (believe it or not, I actually deleted a lot during the editing process) you you might enjoy seeing the trip down to Zion via Wolf Creek Pass (whiteout), as well as our visit to Valley of Fire and Vegas after Zion.

Zion is in my top three favorite places in the US. I like to stay in the cabins at the lodge, though it is a bit pricey, but it's worth it.
Definitely pricey during the peak season, but greatly-reduced in the winter months (usually Nov-Mar) and it is awesome then. Really nice getting up in the morning and being surrounded by the high, vertical cliffs. It is a very personal experience in the winter.

Yes, it is nice to be able to ride into Zion Canyon, but the road across the Zion high country is open to vehicles all year (and no big trucks or buses; RVs have to have an escort through the 1+ mile tunnel as they stop traffic for the RVs to drive in the middle of the tunnel). However, I really like the buses. There was almost no one in the canyon during the weekdays while we were there in January and it was awesome. On Saturday and Sunday there were more people and cars -- not a lot, but I really like the canyon without the vehicles.

Dave,
Great photos. Thanks for posting and sharing. Brings back memories of RG 2007 and the best vacation we've ever had.
Happy 60th and welcome to the club. Wish you many many more.

Put me down for Yosemite and Lake Tahoe and the roads in between. Can't camp cheap in either place anymore, and a loss of respect from other campers. Still my wife and I love to get up several times a year and ride around.
