Has anyone seen the results of a Dyno Run comparison between the old and new 1800 Wing?
A wing has already been turbo charged. It’s a touring bike not a race bike. All 2001 and up are excellent with plenty of power for their purpose. Next thing if it hasn’t been done yet will be NOS and Turbo chargers…lol. Most riders aren’t even close to using the bikes capabilities, even though they want to believe they are. JMO😏
I had the 1600 BMW GT for 5 years and it will “smoke” the GW. With 160 hp it will do about 11 sec in a quarter mile. I had it up to 158 mph “once” with throttle left. That was enough. My bike 2011 was plagued with mechanical problems. Although I enjoyed the ride, it was just not has comfortable on long trips as the GWI don't know about HP, or torque between the two, but I have run my 18 against quite a few of the previous generation 1800's and I have smoked them all. I haven't ever had the opportunity to ride the 1600 BMW, but the fact that I know a lot more guys that have gone from the BMW to the Wing than the other way around tells me somethiing.
I felt sorta the same way back in 2018 about Honda not giving this engine more power...but after watching the moto reviews on youtube and reading everything about this bike for months before it's release..then there was my experience with my old wing..its silky smooth engine with 100ftlbs of smooth torque at low rpms...the handling, the brakes...the long distance comfort...the Gold Wings low center of gravity... Honda dealers close to me and everywhere...huge aftermarket support...Honda stood by its warranty and even stood by the frame issue with my bike after the warranty had expired and made it right....the fact I never spent a dime for any repairs with my 15 years riding my 2003...all of that and the many upgrades to this newest Gold Wing was a huge counter weight to the hp issue...its not like this Gold Wing doesn't scoot for what it is, it never feels slow or under powered while riding it.. put it in sport mode and its fun playing from stop light to stop light...but it's a touring machine after all....comfort....reliabilty...low end torque,...weather protection is really the name of the of the game with this class of motorcycle. The Gold Wing doesn't excel at being the fastest..but it does do everything very well.I'm looking to replace my current touring rig and the BMW K1600B and Goldwing are the front runners. The trouble is that I'm currently running the Triumph Rocket III Touring. With a simple intake, exhaust and tune it's at 150hp and 150tq. I love all the power and torque and have grown accustomed to having a powerful tourer.
I would choose the Wing over the BMW hands down if it had 20 or 30 more horsepower. It's hard to beat it's reliability and dealer network but I just can't bear the thought of the next 10 years on a bike that cannot provide the thrill of max acceleration on top of the pleasure of touring.
There doesn't seem like the GW's power can be substantially increased without much effort either, so currently the BMW is leading.
