I went out a couple weeks ago to get some new pants. When ever I go to that area of the state I like to visit the HD dealer, just to kill some time. I wanted to check out the new Street Glide Ultra. I did a little back ground check on the bike to find out that all they did was add lowers and a trunk to a street glide. That was it. No lights on the trunk, no quick disconnect, and no heel shifter. Just like the 25 wing, added less to an Ultra, but charged more. They also dc'ed the limited.
When I got to the dealership I was immediately accosted by a salesman. Cant blame him, just trying to make his nut. He told me that he was the number 2 salesman in the country. Some guy in California beat him by 2 bikes to take the title. If I had any questions, he was my man. I asked him why they took away the heel shifter. He told me they didn't. All touring bikes come with the heel shifter. Now we were standing on the left side of a SGU, so I asked him to look down. He was quite perplexed to see no heel shifter. He stated that was strange and looked at other touring bikes in the area and sure enough, no heel shifters on any of them. Then I asked if HD had any plans on reinstating the limited. He says that they have a 25 limited and he pointed to the bike next to the SGU we were standing next to. I again told him that HD dced the limited for 25 and that must be a left over 24. He opened one of the saddle bags and hurumphed. Said he didn't realize that there were no more limiteds. He then told me that he could get me a real good deal on any bike I was interested in. I told him I have a 23 wing with only 25,000 miles and was just killing some time. He told me to have a nice day and walked away, without giving me his card. He knew he wasn't going any where with me.
Now I find it sad that the customer, one not really interested in actually buying a bike, knows more about his product than the number 2 in the country. He was either blowing smoke up my ass or they are not informing the sales staff of any changes to the product. I'm guessing the former, not the latter. These bike have been out for several months now and he doesn't even know what he is trying to sell. If I was in the market for a new ride I would have asked for a different salesman, one that could give me the info I needed. I was just happy that he left me quickly so I could finish checking out the rest of the bikes and gear in peace. As I was leaving I passed him by and he instantly threw his eyes in a different direction. Couldn't even tell me it was nice to meet me. Hopped in my truck and went home to wash my trusty wing and get ready for the next days ride.
