It's been a while, but I'm back with an update. Thank you to everyone that has responded. The short of it, the starter was not the issue (I may have a used starter for sale 😁). The long of it is below.
Summers are hot here and I put the Wing on the back burner since my garage is not airconditioned. The temps have dropped and I'm back at it. After I replaced the A & B Starter Relays (OEM from Cyclemax), a fuse, checked all the under-seat relays (all 4 banks) to confirm they were good, and a battery charge, I got the old girl to start. 😁 That's the good news.
Now the bad news. once it started, I noticed a puff of smoke rise from where starter relays are, which is where this whole mess began. I shut her down and restarted her multiple times after seeing the smoke and she started up each time, with no more smoke. Obviously, the smoke is an issue, so I'm looking for some advice, direction or ideas on what may have happened since the relays were new OEM. At this point, I have not yet removed the saddlebag and looked at the relays since I wanted to end the day on a good note (she started, multiple times).
My question is, what would cause this puff of smoke? Is there something that is pushing too much voltage or current to the relays and how can I troubleshoot that?
As always, thanks in advance.
