Dan looks like someone has marked that parking spot.
Nope - drips from water. We had rain these last few weeks (I think we got most of our winter weather out of the way), so I just washed it. That's drip from the leftover water on the bike!

She don't mark her territory....😁

Thanks for the link. Ive seen how this top box works before..was just curious how it goes with the lines of the Gold Wing when its fully expanded..
Here you go - no rear, rear in small, rear in large.

IMHO, it's no more "butt heavy" than the normal Tour - but I don't have to always have all that "junk in the trunk" if I don't need it.

That Shad looks like it 'belongs' on the Wing, at least to my eyes. If I had a non-Tour, I'd be ordering one of those first thing Monday morning. :)

Very nice.

Definitely! It has the right angles, and I think even better proportions than the factory trunk. And it's 58L - so about the same size as the new bigger trunk, too!

I gave up a heated seat - but I knew after a demo ride that I'd be switching out the seat anyway, so no biggie. And I am fine with not having a button up on the control panel, but a rocker on the side of the seat - it's perfectly natural and easy to use, no glancing down to see if I pressed the right button.

I also gave up electric preload adjustment - but I never mess with that anyway. As a man of "gravity" - err gravitas? - I set my preload in the rear to high and leave it.

And as far as TPMS showing pressure instead of an idiot light? I prefer an idiot light. Plenty good for me. I'm not going to check the exact pressure all the time, just let me know if it's low and I'm good.

So the Tour held nothing for me (other than several thousands more dollars), once I considered the Shad. And I have carried some VERY large things back there, with the Shad removed. I have some seat tie down brackets (Show Chrome 52-944 | Seat Tie Down Brackets for Goldwing GL1833) and of course the rear carrier is always mounted, so there are some REALLY STOUT tie-downs to carry some big stuff (like a twin-size memory foam mattress, all rolled up and oriented front-back, hanging about 12" off the rear, with the rest on the pillion seat and the carrier).

Yep, gotta love the Shad58x! I left the backrest on so that the Wifie has a backrest with and without. Looks good, works great, and goes on and off in seconds. View attachment 379044
It is the perfect aftermarket top case for our rides!

What windshield do you have on that? It looks wider than the stocker that comes on the bagger.
Stock bagger! This is the first motorcycle in a LONG time that I haven't replaced with windshield. It has plenty of protection for me, and I'm just a touch over 6 feet tall.

In the list of accessories for the 2021 non tour model, a trunk installation kit and a trunk color installation kit are offered. About 2k $ in total. It seems to be the new 61 liter trunk. I wonder whether it would be possible for using this kit on the 2018-2020 tour models, for replacing the 50 liter trunk with the new 61 liter one ?

I understand this thread is kinda for adding the trunk to base wings, but isnt the lid and seat back the only difference between `18-20 vs 21 touring models. I have not seen one in person yet, only visually comparing online photos. And that is what it looks like to me.

It's not just a different trunk lid - the entire trunk is different / larger (50l to 61l), and with the different trunk comes the different pillion back rest.

From the information I have gathered thus far, the '21 trunk can be retrofitted to the '18-20's for a bit over $2k (mounting base plates are the same part number from '18-20 and '21) - but the new trunk 'Color Kit' only comes in Metallic Black and the three-tone Candy Ardent Red with black/silver as is available on the '21 Tour models.

And it seems the possible option of getting the Color Kit from our northern neighbors in Canada won't help as they only have Metallic Black available for their '21 bikes

So, for most '18-20 Tour owners, new paint would be in order as well.

A viable, if expensive option.

I saw one yesterday. I thought in pictures that it looked bulbous, but in reality it looks great. Was right next to a ‘20 so I got to look closely at both. To be honest, it’s very hard to spot. They did a great job! Pretty much the only thing that gave it away was the two rack mounting panels. Although I do love my ‘20 in white with the blackout engine and forks and wouldn’t trade it for anything, I think they really did a nice job in keeping the original lines of the bike intact.

No, this thread is about replacing the smaller 2018-2020 trunk with the bigger 2021 trunk. The guys at Goldstrike took a picture of the 2 different trunks side by side in their workshop:

The trunk on the 2021 looks good and it still blends with the lines of the bike..if I were in the market for a new Gold Wing Tour it would be a 2021 model for its larger trunk.

That's a great photo to clearly show the size difference. To my eyes, the '21's topcase looks disproprtionately large, and I prefer the slimmer look of the '18-'20s, but I'm sure we'll all get used to seeing the new "BB" (Big Butt.) :)

And if I had to replace my '19 DCT Tour 'Slimster' today, I'd likely hold my nose and buy the '21 BB (in black, which is, as everybody knows, makes one's butt look smaller.)

:)
