Lost FOB and programming procedure not working

I lost my FOB on a ride last week. I ordered and received a new FOB from Wingstuff, $100. I still have the big emergency key and I have the code (from the old fob) written down. I followed the instructions in the service manual to a "T", 4 times, assuming I screws something up each time (I figure I miht have the first time, but probably not 1 out of the next 3) but cannot get it to take. Before the procedure, it does say "Prepare a new SMART key". I don't know what that means, I assumed the follow on procedure was going to tell you how to do it. Basically it goes like this:

turn on FOB (check
I enter emergency ignition on (check)
Insert shorting plug (check)
Stick out tongue (check) turn around three times, stick your left foot out bring your right foot back, say four hail hondas, turn this on, turn this off, plug, unplug, and on and on. All the videos I can find point to adding a spare, that I cannot do. Has anyone done this? I mean, I would like to do it myself, but if I have to take it in at least I can start it.

This is from the Service Manual for both spare key-fob programming and the emergency start procedure - I have done both and they work - if you do not have the Honda Shorting connecter - use a bent paper clip and short the Light Green/Green wires. I'm not sure it works without a registered key, but maybe if you do the emergency starting procedure so the ignition is on it will work.

Are you plugging your shorting plug into the correct connector - the registration connector next to the battery on the left, not the DTC connector on the right. Also, I think the left saddle bag has to remain open

This would be the procedure you should be following if you currently have no working fob...

The above procedure for when all smart keys are lost. Step 4 says to turn the ignition on with the main key. How can you do this if all of the keys are lost? What am I missing here?

I am 100% positive I am plugging the jumper into the correct connector. I am following that procedure as shown above. All the things beep like they should, but at the end, when I am all done, the bike does not have any ignition. Like I posted at first, it says "Prepare a new Honda SMART key" and I am not sure if there is something to do there.

Has anyone that replied lost your key and had to do this?

I can't comment on not having the original to do the process.

However I did the procedure several times (4 I think) and it wouldn't register the new fob. I had the new fob sitting on the rear seat. When I put it on the front seat and followed the procedure again it worked. Don't know if it had anything to do with it but I think this bike has a very weak communication signal. Yes I did it the same each time.

OK, I finally got this thing to work. I had been skipping step 5, called "if you have another" smart key because it looked like it was talking about what you need to do to program a 2nd, third, fourth etc, Evidently, it was considering what I was doing to be programming a second. I hit the left open saddlebag button, got the 3 beeps, and was good to go.

Thanks. I just went out a tried it, I put the FOB right by the ignition switch. I think I had it on the front seat before Anyway, no difference.

If you are using a paper clip instead of a shorting block make sure you're shorting the correct two wires. Find Fred's video and follow it step by step while actually doing the install. Is there any chance the bike has had four fobs programed to it as four is the max number of fobs to the ecu.

Welcome to the forum. IIRC, no more than 4 fobs can be programmed. More than 4 needs a new ECU, and ECUs are not cheap. Whether or not a fob that lost it's connection and is programmed a second time is one of the 4, no one has ever confirmed.

Maybe this vid will help.
