Just bought new helmets and new J&M headsets and can't seem to get either headset to work. It has to be something i'm doing or not doing cause I can't belive they both don't work. The headsets are model HS-8154 and they came with the 5-pin cord. Plugged into the connector on the bike and turning the radio on and then pushing the radio button again displays the headphones icon the sound should be in the helmet right? I get no sound in the helmet with any option, radio, CD, CB, or intercom. What am I missing?? Does the bike have to be running cause i'm trying this with the key in the ACC position.

Playing with intercom settings isn't going to solve anything here. The intercom volume only affects the intercom. It won't affect the radio and aux audio through the headsets.

Since these are new headsets, my suggestion would be to try subbing a known working headset. If you don't know anyone who has a Wing, I'm sure you can stop by your dealer and they can help you.

Other than headsets, there really isn't much of anything with the wiring that can cause this other than a blown headset IC in the radio. Audio to the driver and passenger headsets is driven by the same amplifier in the radio, but the output is split off inside the radio and sent out via two different sets of wires. There isn't any wiring outside the radio that is common to both the rider and passenger headsets that could cause you to lose both rider and passenger audio unless one of the cables was pinched and shorted to ground. (unlikely)

My experience with this radio is similar to what Wayne posted. Blown headset amp IC's are the most common failure I have seen with this radio on the bench as well. (It isn't a major problem, just the most common.)

Got it figured out! I removed the radio and took it to Sierra Electronics in Troy on saturday. They just called today and said its fixed. Turns out that the IC for the headsets was blown. Thats fast turn around they told me a week to 10 days and they fixed it in 3 days! I'm going up saturday to pick it up! Thanks Sierra Electronics!
