How many people change their ropes out on a regular basis? I just did; for about a dollar I feel safer (the old ones were a few years old).

I have used ropes in parking lot after finding a nail so I ropes work.

How many will trust the ropes until the treads reach 2/32"? We had a tire warranty so it was only used to get to the dealer for new shoes.

Last thought, from what I understand CO2 in a tire leaks out quicker than 80 percent Nitrogen.

IIRC, those little C02 canisters are for people who don't carry a pump. So you use the C02 to get you to a gas station or other place to pump the tire to the needed pressure.

As for leaking out quicker than air, unless there is a hole or other physical leak, the C02 molecules will still take a while to work thru the rubber. This is the same kind of nonsense as the 100% nitrogen filled tires vs. 80% nitrogen.

Personally, I would never trust CO2 carts unless you can carry 20 of them. One use item. A pump is better.

I've used the Nealy repair kit for YEARS.
https://www.nealeytirerepairkit.com/

The first couple of times I ordered a kit, they actually shipped me the kit and said to send a check back when I got it. (early 2000's.) Now they have online ordering. Lots o truckers use them. I have never actually had to use the kit on my own bike, but have gotten three other riding buddies back on the road with it.

I've got all three (sticky rope, Dynaplugs, Stop n Go mushrooms) on my bike now.

The concept of the mushrooms with their little head that spreads out on the inside made sense to me and I was seduced by it. I've used them a few times with great success and have a lot of miles on some repaired tires. My sample set of experience is much smaller than Fred's. Now that I know he doesn't trust them, I no longer have faith. I haven't used one since.

Dynaplugs are quick and easy for pin holes. I've had leaks they wouldn't plug. A great tool, but not THE one and only tool.

Sticky rope. Yeah. I've used them a lot in a prior life. You can make it work on just about anything. I haven't had to use them on my motorcycle. I can convince myself that Dynaplugs or Stop n Go mushrooms are all sexy and will rubber weld themselves in for life but I have a tough time not thinking about my life depending on that slim jim not squirting out of the hole, even if I use a fresh tube of snot. If I do use them, for me it will probably be a temporary repair rather than a fix since a tire is cheaper than therapy.
@Wiscocyclist, the Nealy thing looks solid.

I already have the ropes, but just now bought the Nealy kit, per Wiscocyclist post 23 above. Went to their web site and became a believer. Have never had a problem with ropes, but usually replace a repaired tire in a few thousand miles. Have had an air compressor in the GW's saddlebag since about a month after I bought the bike. Never bothered on a Harley or BMW though. I liked that the GL1500 I had n the 1990s had an on board compressor, though I never had to use it.

I've been carrying a pump for years. As well as flat repairs, nice to be able to top up the tire when on a trip.

I like that Nealey repair kit you mentioned. Think I'll order a Mini Repair Kit. Time to replace my rope plugs anyway. Seven rope plugs in that kit should be more than enough.

I just ordered the kit. Thanks for the heads up.

I, too, am a sticky rope man. I carry three sizes, the rasp tool, the applicator and rubber solvent glue. The common middle size seems to work just fine. In a tire without sealant goop the repair should be permanent if done correctly. Do not rely on any repair that is close to the side wall.

Where do you find three different sizes? I did a search on Amazon and wasn't able to find different sizes...

Small black ropes with blue wrapper were packaged under trade name "Monkey Grip" and purchased at Auto Zone. Regular sized red sticky ropes are common and my packs are branded "Slime". I forget where I found the larger red plugs and how they were branded. The outer packaging is all that was branded and they are now between clear mylar plastic sheets rolled up in my kit. They may have been branded Victor, but not sure. I have glue from Monkey Grip and Slime. I bet its all from same central supplier.
