I know that most everyone hates an oil thread, but I was hoping to get some opinions on Shell Rotella T5 10W-30 Synthetic Blend Oil. It does not have the energy conserving round symbol on the back of the jug. It has Meets API Service CJ-4, CI-4, CI-4 PLUS, CI-4, CH-4, CG-4/SM on the back also. Is this oil ok for our 2012 Goldwings? Thanks!!!

According to what you posted it doesn't show that it meets JASO MA specs, which is oil approved for use in our GL1800's. The Rotella full syn. (T6) 5w-40 and the dino oil 15w-40 are both JASO MA approved. Hope this helps you.

It works well in my 2000 Sierra with the 5.3 liter V8.

It wouldn't be my first choice for a Goldwing.

However, it would probably work just fine. It is a stout semi-synthetic, with a high TBN.

It can't be any worse than the Honda GN-4 oil.

My 2007 didn't like the T6 5-40 synthetic. When it was cool in the mornings, the transmission was real noisy and shifted rough. I switched to the dino 15-40 and it got a lot quieter and shifted smoother. Just my 2 cents!!!

T6 synthetic is no good, shown over and over again in oil analysis. 10W30 T5 works fine and although not Jaso approved, who cares? It works and there was no Jaso years ago so I don't ever give a care about that rating. It's not energy conserving and works fine with a wet clutch. 15w40 fine too, but can't use it in winter. If you're worried about the Jaso MA thing, run 15W40, if not use the recommended 10W30 which the T5 is and works fine, not the 5W40. I don't ever see 5W40 as a recommended viscosity to run. Why don't they make a 10W40 synthetic like available in every country but USA is beyond me, but they don't.

Shell don't, but Mobil do.

Have been using the Rotella T5 for about 40,000 miles now. Did quite a bit of research before switching.

Here is an oil analysis from a GL1800, using T5 10W-30:

T5 is available in 10W-30 and 10W-40:

T5 10W-40 is harder to find, but available here:

I put T6 5w40 in and I noticed a change in clutch behaviour. Stalled it a few times in the first week due to that. It's also harder to shift, I find myself downshifting into neutral instead of first which can be hazardous. Planning on going back to 15w50 next time around.

15w40 maybe ?
