I've been searching through the forum to find recommendations for a good route planning app compatible with Apple CarPlay. Specifically, I'd like to be able to sit at my computer, plan a route with a number of stops and detours from the fastest route, and then have it available in an App for Apple CarPlay. I've used the Honda Navigation system, and it works well mostly, but causes trouble when I'm using my CB / Intercom / etc. I've been playing with the Tom Tom App, but can't figure out how to plan routes with it, just set destinations. Any and all help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I use Scenic app as primary - compatible with Google maps and Kurviger (remember Google has a 10 waypoint limitation)

I use Rever Pro app and website as secondary - route from website just shows up in the app and can kick out a GPX file formated for your Wing

Both support turn by turn voice with a paid subscription. Scenic has a lifetime subscription option.

Inroute is pretty good too.

If you are going to use Honda Navi and ACP Navi simultaneously, start up sequence for routing is ACP navi first (get it fully started), the Honda Navi. If you start the ACP navi after starting the Honda Navi route, the Honda navi will stop routing.

As for a Navigation system causing trouble with CB and Intercom...I assume you mean that Navigation talks over or during CB and intercom transmissions.

Use of ACP is not going to change that.

That prioritization is by design in both your headset and on the Wing.

Intercom is a lower priority than Phone/CB/Honda Navigation/ACP Navigation. All four will superceed intercom transmit and receive.

Where it gets a little strange is when CB, Honda Navi, ACP Navi are both trying to talk at the same time. What happens depends on which settings you have selected.

See listing from highest (top) to lowest (bottom)

There are settings that let the Navi speak by interupting or speak simultaneously. You have to figure out what works for you.

Just bought inroute and planned trip with waypoints etc to wing ding on my mac,
Wing ding to hotel etc. exported to gpx files and imported to Goldwing nav via usb and have iCloud for my phone etc.
Paid the $40 for annual subscription and can always cancel next year if want to.

So far I really like it

Is there a navigation app like InRoute, Rever, and Scenic (coming summer 2021) that works on Andriod Auto (not counting google maps)?

Google Maps, Waze and Sygic all work on AA. I use Waze with AA for simple point-to-point navigation, but use my Garmin for longer trips.

Sygic support for AA is pretty new and judging by the reviews in the Store, it is plenty buggy at this point. Item 2 is you can't really get a working demo of the AA feature without buying it, and 3 is it is more expensive than the app and the maps. Sygic support claims it is due to Google's fees. If it were expensive and worked well, I would still buy it, but most users claim it does not work reliably.

There is a rumor that Scenic is going to be available for Android and AA in the future, but I could not find any specific date for availability or a projected price. In fact there is not even a date for Scenic to be on Android on their web page. It says by the end of 2021, but nothing more specific than that.

Thanks!

I do my route planning in Kurviger as well and transfer just like you do. Follow the instructions at the top of the 2018 forum.
I've been stickler on putting the way point on the road and even in the proper lane/side. Ive found that the import process can cause it to move.

I have the latest s/w update installed on the Wing.
On my ride yesterday, I could only interface with eight way points on Honda Nav. I could see the others if I scrolled through but could not interact with them.

Guess I need to keep honing my understanding of the Honda Nav procedures.

I still haven't figure out how to clear a way point without stopping.

Thanks for you feedback. I appreciate it.

To delete a point will moving press the centre ENT button on the 4 way switch to get the menu bar on the nav screen.
Scroll over and select 'clear guidance' it will give the option to clear all or to clear any point still on the route. The one you just missed (the one it is currently trying to route you to) should be the top one on the list. Select the one to be deleted (or 'all) and select YES on the verification box.

I use Google Maps on my pc, and either email the route to my phone or save and access it from the phone. If a waypoint is missed you can delete it on the fly easily. I don’t have a CB so don’t know if it interferes. I also like Rever (paid) but Google Maps is easier on the road. If 8 is not enough, I simply make two routes. If I make several routes and view them on my phone, they are easy to find as “Recents”. As long as I have cell coverage it’s fine. If in the boonies I use my Zumo XT. The Google process has been described elsewhere on this site. Also several YouTube videos showing the process. Just another option.

Thanks.

I have no interest to have a third separate GPS system so off-line maps / routing using an app on CarPlay or using the Honda Nav is my requirement.

Heard Scenic is about to roll out CarPlay capable app that supports off line maps routing. If you buy the lifetime support ($79) it is far cheaper than all the others.

just a thought...by using the bike nav, you free up your phone for other apps. i upload my route to the bike and use the phone for spotify for music, myradar for real time weather or waze, which warns of road debris, police traps, traffic, etc...an added benefit is being able to use google maps or apple maps as a secondary navigation. for instance...im using th bike nav to get me to the destination and i decide i want to search local sites, gas stations, restaurants, etc.... i ask siri to do that and navigate me there. once i get there, i resume the bike nav for my destination.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I like the bike nav system and use it every opportunity I can. It is great for routes on main road and super slabs.

BUT there are two severe limitations that impact usability: 1) it can only support 8 way points and 2) it can't reroute if a waypoint is missed - it demands that you go back and get the way point (can't clear the waypoint without stopping either)

If the Nav system could support up to 150 way/via points on a route and would auto reroute to the next way/via point once on is missed (or cleared while bike is in motion) then I would use it exclusively for ride routing.

When riding twisties/back roads in my local area, the routes usually require 15+ way points/via points. While they Nav system will process them, you can only see eight randomly selected points...hope you don't miss one.

The area I ride in routinely has cell coverage gaps so I require Off-line / Out of Cell service map and routing support. That eliminates google maps, apple maps, InRoute, Waves, and some other apps.

I'm focused on routing and route management.

Of note for you - InRoute integrates weather and routing but doesn't work off-line. Using InRoute would reduce the number of apps you are running.

Can't figure out if InRoute has off line maps and nav capability or not. What is your experience?

I'm looking at InRoute and Scenic. Scenic is about to roll out a CarPlay compatible version and has off-line map capability so navigation will work without cell coverage.

If you are looking for something to make a route for CarPlay I absolutely love using App “InRoute”. I don’t think it is available on a Windows computer, but it is available on a Mac or any iOS device. There is a free version that you can try to see how you like it, but it restricts you to 8 waypoints and doesn’t allow iCloud storage. The paid subscription version is $39.99/year but well worth it in my book. Routes with up to 150 waypoints or via points and iCloud storage so routes can be opened on any of your devices. I easily make routes on my iPad and then just open them up on my iPhone to use with CarPlay. Many have concerns using CarPlay for routing because they say they loose connection if no cell coverage. With “InRoute”, so long as you have cell coverage when you load the route you are good for the ride, no matter if you loose cell coverage. If you make a stop and then restart the route it will ask if you want to resume the route from point “X”. You can have “Waypoints” for actual stops and “Via Points” for shaping the route which won’t be announced during the ride. I use to use Mapsource and Basecamp for using my Zumo on my old bike and I was pretty good with it. I am amazed how much easier this is to use and the fact that I can create a route on my iPad and then just open up the same route on my iPhone to use it with CarPlay is great. I don’t have to deal with transferring files to the bike. As I said it is well worth the subscription price for the full version, but you can try the free version first to see how well you like it. When you consider what people pay for a Zumo the subscription price is well worth it to me. You can also export a GPX file from your route that you can transfer to your built in Nav or a Zumo, but I haven’t seen the need to even try that. The screen on the CarPlay is so much better than the Nav screen I don’t want to even try it.

Take a look at Rever. It works with carplay and has planning capabilities along with route record and using built in butler maps. There is a free and paid version. The paid version (to me) is worth it and their support is terrific.
