That turn signal relay....location and removal

OK,
2nd post of the day... I'm finishing up my LED change over. The rear amber LEDs went in along with a pair of strobe LEDs on the rear of the speaker pods. The strobes run in default constant on so they will play with the bikes flasher...

Now the fun part, I have searched the net and found all kinds of info on the GL1800 relay but none of it helps at the stage I'm stuck at.

I found the relay. It's actually pretty easy to find. With the speaker dash cover off and on yours knees, with a bright flashlight it can be found sitting pretty behind the dash mounted on its rubber booty.

I'm pressing as hard as I can on what I believe is the release pin of the relay but the connector will not pop free!

I looked at Babbits online parts search and found the relay listed as p/n 38301-KTF-671. Pictures of the relay show that it has the locking tab on it and it seems like it would be pressed down for release... but it will not budge!
I can get only get one paw in there!

I removed it from the mounting location before attempting to disconnect it. That may have been my mistake. I'm going to take another shot at it by putting it back on the mount THEN trying the connector. That is AFTER my blood pressure comes down a few more points.

Thanks for looking.....

When I replace mine, I leave this clip in place and slide the flasher out of the holder.
Then use a zip tie to hold the new flasher in place.

Yep,
The relay going in is for LEDs. Amazon sells it for about $8. I made my own harness from OEM connectors that I had on hand. The heat shrink also has clear silicone at the base where the connector meets the relay just for that extra protection.
This relay will also run incandescent bulbs as well. If it goes pop later.... it will be a lot easier to replace! I was going to use automotive velcro to hold it in place. Well that didn't work at all. I settled for a blob of silicone to hold it just below where the OEM was located.

Well getting the relay back on that mounting stem ain't happening..... I decided to take a shot at lifting the dash so I could get my second paw in there. Four bolts and lifting up just a little allowed me to get a hand on the relay and one one the harness.

Bingo.

Ah, Now he tells me..... I could still go back and try that. I still have the dash up for other farkling.

Thanks
I went back and pulled the relay off the silicone. The rubber mount gizmo was already in my hands so using small diameter tie wraps was easy to mate the relay to it. The fun part was getting my paw back in there are almost blindly finding that mounting point. I finally figured out that pushing the wire harness of the relay as far back as possible got me to the happy place where I could get the thing mounted.
Thanks for the tip!

This thread explains the number one reason I'm sticking with OEM incandescent bulbs for blinkers.:)

I cuss every time I've got to get to the connector for the dash speaker cover.

I've only taken the dash cover off the 2012 three times. The first time was 30 minutes, the second time about 10 (it had been a little while and I dun fer got.) . The last time it was 2 minutes... the KEY to getting it done quick is the tweeter tabs you need to release are on the inside edge (where you can't see them, but can feel them).
Lifting the speedo was four 8mm bolts and it lifted up (not disconnected) more than enough to allow my paws in there.
It's just a learning curve that I hope I never have to repeat.....

Keep in mind that the current draw for an incandescent bulb is over 2 amps each! The same LED is about 0.160A each... Adding brake lights or extra turn signals adds to that load. I changed out everything down to the plate light and hopefully will never have to revisit it again.
