Good Question. I have 109K miles on my 2018 and the thought has crossed my mind - maybe I just don't do the recall, what then?

 

Might be harder to resell but otherwise ... I thought the same thing as mine has 26K miles but opted to do the recall for resale.

 

I haven't read the recall, but if it doesn't say to quit riding it and you have it scheduled to be done, Honda 'should' be liable.
If you ignore the notice, it's a different story.

 

I agree with Cihilb - the recall isn't a 'STOP RIDING' recall, so the ownness is on Honda if something happens. I had a stop riding recall on my FJR so in that case, had I continued to ride and something happened, the ownness would have been on me.

 

It’s my opinion that if you respond to your letter in a responsible fashion and contact your dealer for repair and make an appointment then the ball is in their court reguadless of when the appointment is for. You have done the best you can do. If they can’t get to it fast enough before it breaks that is on them and not you. If your negligent in your responsibility than I’m not sure what would happen.

 

Yes, Zee. basically what I said. This recall is a safety issue. The rear wheel can lock up and cause a crash.
One mentioned the fuel pump. The bike just stalls and can't be restarted.

 

Find another dealer, even if it means taking a road trip.

 

I have a 2018 DCT and I received the UBS bolt recall and the fuel pump recall letters. Talked with a local (somewhat) Honda service department yesterday. The service manager told me they were booking repairs. Asked if I bought it there, I said no and he said they would not get to it before the end of riding season. They have not done any yet.
My question is, if I continue to ride and the bolt drops out and causes major damage. Is Honda still responsible, because there are no dealers around willing to do the repair in a timely fashion?

Maybe best if you made a appt for the repair, You'd have proof you tried.Then Honda would be responsible??? Just thinking

 

The dealer I went to called yesterday and told me they would not be making any more appointments before this fall.
Unfortunately, I sold my trailer earlier this year to a member on this forum. There are no dealers near me for at least 50 miles.
I think I will just ride. That way the dealer will have time to get experience doing the recalls.

 

Good grief, make the damn appointment even if you don't take it into that specific dealer. I can't believe they are THAT busy that they can't get to it before fall. My gut tells me they are putting you off to get some work into their slow season, or they really don't want to do the work. Maybe they don't have anyone experienced enough to do it, who knows. I do know this much from my past work experience, warranty work is never a money maker for the tech or the dealer. In fact most warranty work is a loser. So if a dealer can put off working on your bike in the busy season they will do it.

For my two cents, I would call some other dealers and see what they say about getting the work completed on your bike. If you find one that can do it relatively soon rent a U-Haul bike trailer for $15.00 and get it in. Don't bother calling the original dealer and then when they call you to bring your bike in tell them you took it to so and so and had it fixed already. Screw them, that's nonsense. Putting you off until next fall tells me they don't really want your business anyway. Your covered with Honda if you make the appointment for repairs. If you go with a U-Haul trailer just remember to jack up the suspension before you load the bike on the trailer. Some Wings will bottom out on the trailer ramp if the suspension is set low. Good luck whatever you do.

I think a lot of smaller dealers may reduce their number of techs during off times, like winter.
I know mine does. Makes no sense to pay employees sitting around with nothing to do.

 

I'd look for another dealer as others have stated.

I don't have any dealers close by, but have four just about the same 40 miles away.

Turns out I picked one 60 miles away because they're picking the bike up and delivering it free.

I'm going to have the air filter swapped and a valve adjustment done, so they get extra work.

They also will mostly get my loyalty in service and any possible new purchases.

 

Late to the party, but my 2018 DCT Tour has been sitting at a dealer's shop for 5-weeks waiting for both recall fixes! Seems they only have one tech that they trust with these jobs. They have 3 days and then I'm getting my bike back and taking it elsewhere! Fortunately, I have more than one bike!

 

But then fun may begin again at the second dealer.
Just be glad you don't have an RV. Normal repair times are at least a month out.
