motorcycle
/mō′tər-sī″kəl/
noun
1.
a motor vehicle with two wheels and a strong frame

That was the first reaction I got from another rider when I pulled into Two Wheels of Suches last week . . . and he was a Gold Wing owner! Everyone is entitled to their opinion so I just let it go, but just for kicks, I should have told him I also drive a Tesla, LOL! View attachment 497683

For me, it's not about whether I like or dislike shifting, it's way more about performance. The computer shifts quicker and smoother than I can most of the time. It's always in 1st gear when I stop and never misses a shift. Clutches and transmissions experience less wear and last longer if humans are eliminated from their control.
Same trend is happening with heavy trucks, latest autoshift transmissions provide better performance, lower fuel consumption, fewer repairs, less driver fatigue, less driver skill, etc.
The same guy would probably think a newer Ferrari with paddle shifters isn’t a real sports car…. Ride your own ride and ignore the uninitiated!

I may have thought the same two years when I was riding a Harley CVO Limited. So you have a clutch bike cause you like to pop the clutch and rev the engine at a stop. Otherwise, the DCT allows me to focus solely on operating the GW. I especially liked it when riding the Tail of the Dragon. But whatever works for you, that is cool.

Like DJK62 said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion...but personally, since buying my DCT, I've said many times, I don't miss shifting gears at all....I've really noticed how much MORE I enjoy riding this bike over my previous Goldwings and I think the DCT is a big part of that...anyways, that's my 2 cents...ride safe....

Me too!!!

I can't tell a DCT from a manual when I pass them along the road. What I can TELL is their enjoying THEIR motorcycle!

Its your money, your choice, and your ride GREAT FOR YOU ENJOYING THE ROAD with me.

I've been shifting gears on a motorcycle for 50+ years and I am SO happy with my 2018 DCT! I believe I have earned a break.
"Real" is a state of mind and in my opinion, that guy was OUT OF his, with that statement.

After test riding a DCT, it seemed pretty motorcycle-ly to me, just not my preference.

I still like driving a manual car, but there aren't many to choose from.
Or many people that can drive one. I learned when I was 14 working in a used car lot. That was over 62 years ago.

I've owned a DCT Africa Twin and liked it only after adding a rear handbrake, to the left bar. Initially i was ok and felt i needed to adapt to dct. Six months later after I rode the AT off-road in technical sections I disliked the very low speed power-on as it was too aggressive, and often my right foot had to be dabbing in rocks and narrow sections - so ... after adding a hand brake there, gave the ability to modulate power, regardless of my right foot position... So i was pumped to go ride the GWing DCT. I was, however, very disappointed in the 2025 DCT GWing i test rode, GWing carplay is retarded, and the DCT clunked on the downshifts and imo lacking power overall due to the Euro 5 2025 emissions choking it. I decided to re-test ride a very low mileage euro3 manual tour luxury of the previous gen, and loved the power delivery and the previous manual gearbox. I Purchased that GWing manual. IMO, Honda can and will do better. Let's see what the 2026 (next gen) offers.

I went DCT out of need , damaged left foot and ankle, I was happy to end the pain of shifting. Since? I wouldn’t go back. I love the DCT, love its characteristics, its ability to modify whether in manual or not. Very happy with it. And by the way, a std shift doesn’t want to race light to light because you can’t shift that fast 😎

"In my opinion AND experience, a DCT is real a motorcycle."
Well of course it is...

Motorcycle- "A two-wheeled vehicle with a motor and no pedals."

A Goldwing DCT fits this definition. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion (the OPs friend) but some opinions are ignorant and wrong.
