After visiting several dealers and trying on the Advant X and never finding one big enough I ordered one from Dennis Kirk in 3XL white. DK always delivers! 👍 First off, the helmet comes in a classy backpack carrying case and is then wrapped in a quality helmet bag. Very nice! The helmet itself appears high quality so 5 stars for first impressions.
I ordered 3xl because the 2xl was too tight on my cheeks and though still tight the 3xl at least seemed tolerable. Otherwise, fitment seemed fine so I decided it was a keeper.
Today, the first real test happened...at least as much test as I can give a helmet without crashing. I had a 400 mile ride that started out in cold and rain, morphed into upper 80's and ended up in 50mph crosswinds and plummeting temperatures. Welcome to a day of North Dakota riding!
The helmet was good in the rain...no leaks! The venting seemed pretty good when it got hot, too. Noise levels in the helmet seemed typical until those crosswinds hit. Then, it was louder than my Shoei Neotec 2.
I removed the helmet a few times during the day and each time I struggled with the awkward ratchet strap assembly. I suppose I'll get used to it but it's unnecessarily cumbersome.
The other mechanisms were flawless. The flip over chinbar is great (I like open face helmets). Both shields are of great quality although I prefer darker tint on the sunshield.
As the hours accumulated, one major thing began to irritate me with the helmet. The nevkroll seemed too tight for my head and neck and this forced the front of the helmet down onto my eyebrows. By the end of the ride I hated the helmet.
i really hoped the Advant X would be my helmet savior but, alas, it'll just be another overpriced part timer.
Three stars from this buyer.

Question: Is the helmet visor detent mechanism strong enough to hold the visor open at the first detent, just minimally cracked open, at highway (say, 70 mph) speed?

Of my two helmets, my 5 year old HJC modular‘s faceshield will not stay open 1 detent at highway speed, but my 4 yo Schuberth C4 visor will.

I have the original LS2 Valiant.
1) The inner cushions will loosen in some time.

2) At least for the Valiant 1, I could buy the different sized inner cushion for like $20 (few years back), so I took my scissors to one version and trimmed the sponges to my liking ...

3) For me , the front visor remains open at 1 click at highway speeds also ...

I’m really happy with mine. You will get used to the buckle .. is a little fussy. The face shield does stay open at the 1st detent. No problems. It is really awesome to have the flexibility of a full flip back modular helmet.

My biggest complaint is the sun shield is not quite dark enough for me. I have to wear hard contacts and have sensitive eyes in bright sun light. I shopped for a darker shade but it doesn’t look like anything is available.

I'll second that! First detent is solid and keeps shield open just enough to get air flow. The buckle is definitely a love/hate thing. Yes, you build muscle memory and don't have to think about it most of the time, but occasionally I do find myself still fighting with it. D-rings are the only way. Other then the buckle, the helmet is perfect for my needs. I can't thank the group enough for recommending it.

It sounds like you have a wider jaw line that what the US Helmet marked expect anyone to have. I have that problem too. I do not have a "light bulb" shaped head expected by the US Market suppliers and many oversized at the top helmets gives me "fish mouth" and are totally unacceptable. I have a LSII Valiant II and I had to order a down size set of cheek pads and they were still too tight. But a needle and thread was used to compress the sponge some until I got it to be comfortable. My Dad has a much bigger problem than I do for US market helmets causing "fish mouth". As such, he is using wally world special barely dot rated pos. I tried once at a place that had the "best helmet fitter" to let them fit me in something. They pointed out that what I was using was way too big and there was too much movement at the top. He fitted me something that fit the top and I said "MFH ekH kIEh Wenf". Then took the helmet off and restated that there was no way this will work. He grabbed a set of thinner cheek pads and tried again. "MDKJF DHhhe". That was "Same problem". The end result was that there was nothing there that could work. Lassoing the sponge compressing it down ended up being the best solution to being forced to buy something not made for my had shape. For that, this and the prior LSII have been the best fitting helmets I have had after the cheek pad modification.

I actually like the buckle better than D rings, but it does create a problem when I want to hang my helmet on my helmet hooks on the trunk. I haven't encountered any fitment issues, but I do notice it takes some effort getting it on/off due to the neck roll, but I suspect that will get better once its fully broken in.

Is the ratchet on the Advant X that much more difficult to deal with than the one on the Neotec 2? And now that you have had it a few months, how does it compare to the Neotec 2?

I wear both helmets regularly. The Advant has broken in quite well. Recently I took a week-long trip with likely quite a bit of rain so I chose the more known option which is the Neotech 2. The shield on the Advant has shown some leakage in rain and that played a role in the decision.
